John Zogby may be a good pollster in other parts of the nation, but he should be required to have adult supervision before he conducts another California poll. Zogby had both Governor Romney and Senator Obama winning their respective primaries. He had both of them very wrong. Senator McCain carried all but two Congressional districts enroute to a comfortable. Senator Clinton's margin was relatively closer, but she carried forty-three of fifty-three Congressional districts. One pollster told CR that Zogby's methodology -- relying on random digit dialing, rather than using the voter file -- is fundamentally flawed. "Zogby's method includes some people who simply aren't registered to vote", this pollster told CR.
With the failure of Proposition 93, look for the jockeying to begin in the Legislature for the Speaker and Senate President Pro Tem positions. Although both Speaker Nunez and Senate President Pro Tem Perata have said they intend to stick around for awhile, don't bet the farm on that one.

Like the economy, politics are cyclical. Liberal to conservative, federal to central and back again. What we must learn from the election results across California and the US is that we are entering a specific swing that combines both liberal philosophies and a heavier reliance on the central government. With the economy headed in the direction it is, the momentum of the swing will only intensify in the next few months. Now, more than ever before, we must focus on both educating and moderating the perspective of the left and emboldening and strengthening our friends on the right. A singular approach will not be enough.
Fortunately, we have embraced this dual approach in our political strategies during the past few election cycles and we have insured ourselves as best we could for just this situation. The key to both our success and our survival as an industry will be to now engage our membership in the grass roots campaign that it is going to take to educate the voter/consumer as to the value and the importance of a private health care system. A private health care system that is rapidly eroding, I might add.
